CHRISTMAS CHARITY QUIZ

Brixham Cricket Club showed once again its support for local charities as we hosted the Annual Christmas Charity Quiz in support of Palm FM's 'Train a Lifeboat man Charity'. Brixham Cricket Club is proud to support PALM FM's RNLI 'Train a Lifeboat man' Charity for 2011. Their aim was to fund 3 new members of the team direct into Torbay, Dartmouth & Teignmouth. It costs approaching £1,500 for the first year of training for each additional member. This does not include weather proof protective clothing.

We live by the seas and know its unpredictability. Whether it is ourselves, family members or friends; we all know someone who relies on the expertise and professionalism of our local Lifeboat crews to keep them safe. Brixham Cricket Club supports our local community as does PALM FM.

This was the culmination of a series of events supporting the charity. The Cricket Club over 35's Cricket team have been strutting their stuff (well hobbling mostly!) on the cricket field this summer raising £877 to go towards the charity. Huge thanks must go to all the sponsors; The Trawler Pub, Macleod Stride Engineering, JP Scaffold, Langdon & Phillips, Steve Trust & Jacomina, Macleod Trawlers & Lloyd Maunder Paignton, Andy Young and the players involved. Thanks to those doctors and nurses who were on standby for Captain Graham Luscombe who hobbled on and off the pitch more than usual!

The Christmas Charity bingo run by Paul Farr and Frank Skinner kicked off the social activities and raised £170. The Christmas quiz night was well attended with the Club full and we enjoyed the company of the Brixham RNLI team. An exhaustive amount of Christmas questions were followed by an auction of lots generously donated by Ron Campion, Churston Golf Club, Exeter Chiefs Rugby Club, Princess Theatre, Paignton Zoo, Bays Brewery and Mifsuds.

Despite a stewards enquiry required on the result of the quiz before it descended into Christmas debauchery a total of £934 was raised from the social activities to go with the £877. This means that the Cricket Club contributed a total of £1,811. This is in excess of the sum to train one Lifeboat man for PALM FM's charity. To all those involved and who contributed a huge THANK YOU.
