BCC Charity Christmas Events

Pictured are Nick Hart (Chairman), Graham Luscombe and Mike Smith proudly presenting a cheque for £1200 to Georgia Brooks of Rowcroft Hospice on behalf of Brixham Cricket Club.
The Club over the last thirty years have traditionally used the festive period to raise monies for local charities. This started out at our old clubhouse with a charity quiz and has grown annually, with the help of some committed members to incorporate a charity bingo evening and a darts tournament. These events have raised well in excess of £20,000 for local charities over the years.
This years recipients were Rowcroft Hospice. Their vision is 'to make every day the best it can be for all patients, and their families, living with life-limiting illnesses in South Devon'. A truly well deserving charity.
BCC Committee and Rowcroft Hospice would like to express their gratitude to all members of the club who supported the events and contributed in any way to this fantastic total. In particular thanks go to Nick Hart, Graham Luscombe and Mike Smith who organised the quiz, darts and bingo nights. Thanks also to Exeter Chiefs Rugby Club, Exeter Racecourse, Woodlands, Princess Theatre and Eileen Mackellar who donated auction lots. The total also includes a donation from the Club.
Dan Lakshan

Great news of Dan who has been selected to tour England with the one day Sri Lankan team. They will be here at the end of July for a series of one day and 20/20 matches against England.
Dan was Brixham's overseas player in 2019, He was contracted to return in 2020 (but for Covid) and would have loved to come back this year however. The Sri Lankan cricket board had other ideas.
Whilst with Brixham Dan scored 582 runs (average 41.57) and took 31 wickets (average 16.32). Last year (2020) he was included in the Team of the Tournament following Sri Lankas one day league season. He has been praised for ability to bowl inswings (learned at Brixham) and his 'back of the hand' slower ball.
Good luck to Dan on this tour and his future in international cricket.

Parents and children have given a massive thumbs up to Brixham Cricket club ALL STARS programme this year .
43 young people aged 5 to 8 signed up for the programme which ran for eight weeks at the club on a Friday evening
Our programme was run by George Breyley assisted by Dan Lakshan our overseas player and a number of young and not so young volunteers.
A written club survey at the end of the programme was completed by half of the parents involved and produced the following results
Is ALL STARS programme good value for money? 96.6 % SAID YES
Did your child enjoy ALLSTARS? Every parent marked us 100%
Did our team of volunteers make you feel welcomed? Every parent marked us 100%
Is Brixham Cricket Club a good venue for ALLSTARS? Every parent marked us 100%
Would you recommend Brixham ALL STARS to a friend? Every parent marked us 100%
Numerous comments are also recorded such as Brilliant, we enjoyed every minute, fantastic fun. Thanks so much.
Phil Gregory, Club Secretary says, "we are so proud of the people who helped deliver this programme Special thanks to George Breyley who was brilliant" !!
BRIXHAM CRICKET CLUB
2019 ALL STARS

COLTS V PARENTS
To coincide with the Cricket World Cup, currently underway, Brixham Cricket Club hosted an inaugural match between Colts and their Parents at the Club .
14 Colts took on 12 parents in a match where the result was in doubt until the last ball .Clearly a number of parents had spent most of the summer practising their bowling in their back gardens and were able to restrict the colts to 103 in the overs allocated.
Despite the Colts showing great respect for their elders when bowling ,a number of Adults clearly had a very good eye and were very effective hitting 'across the line'.
Come the final over the Parents needed nine to win and with two balls left this had been reduced to seven .The penultimate ball sailed into the long grass for 6 leaving the scores level .As the fielders crowded in to stop the single a dot ball ensured the match ended in a tie at 103 runs each side .
Many thanks to all who took part in a very enjoyable afternoon which could well become a regular annual fixture
OVERSEAS PLAYER 2019

Picture shows club Chair Nick Hart presenting overseas player ‘Dan’ Lakshan with a trophy to recognise Dan’s outstanding contribution during the 2019 season
Dan, aged 20, came to us on his first visit to England ,having played for Sri Lanka Under 19 ‘s in the 2018 world cup for that age group.
In league innings Dan hit 482 runs ,with a highest score of 103 and an average of 34.43.
With the ball Dan took 30 wickets with a best of 6 for 38 ,at an average of 16.83.
Dan was a very popular figure around the club, who give willingly his time to help with All Stars cricket for the under 8’s and with coaching for individuals and our Colts Teams
We will follow Dan’s future career with interest
